Aldai MP Marianne Kitany now says that Public Service
Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi must resign or be impeached.
Speaking in Mogomben Primary School, Kobujoi ward, Kitany
said Muturi’s recent remarks over abductions were uncalled for.
She said the CS has had many chances to raise the issue in
Cabinet but he chose to do it in the media.
The legislator termed the move as disrespect to President
William Ruto and the country’s highest decision-making body; the Cabinet.
“The highest organ where decisions are made in the republic
of Kenya is called cabinet and only the President, his deputy, the Attorney General
and all Cabinet Secretaries no other Kenyan sits in Cabinet. That is where all
issues affecting the country are discussed.
“While you were the Attorney General why didn’t you go to
the Cabinet and ask about your son and all Kenyan children? If you a member of
the Cabinet cannot say it before the President what do you want an ordinary
Kenyan to do? That is disrespecting our President and the Cabinet,” she said.
Kitany insisted that Muturi’s remarks raise questions about his abilities to serve public office since he cannot get
answers from people who report to him.
The MP said that Muturi cannot fight the government he is serving
from the inside adding that he should resign and raise his issues as an ordinary
citizen.
She added that should he fail to resign, she will table a
censure motion against him in the National Assembly.
“Six months since your son was abducted and you have not
reported. You are the minister for Public Service meaning all these people
report to you, so when you go to the media aren’t you telling us you are
incompetent? What are you doing in that office? Just resign and start
addressing us as a citizen. You cannot fight the government from inside.
“If you cannot respect the government you are serving, my
job as an MP is oversight and I’m telling you to resign and if you don’t I will
table a censure motion against you.”
During a press conference at Serena Hotel, on Sunday, Muturi
said his family underwent suffering and turmoil after his son was abducted and
disappeared with no information from the police.
This, he said, despite making several requests and demands
to all levels of the security apparatus to help trace him.
“I was not sure whether he was alive or dead, making us
anxious and leaving me, my wife and my family in turmoil,” he said.
Muturi said more than six months after that ordeal and the
release of his by his abductors, no one has been charged and nobody has
explained why his son was abducted and held incommunicado.
The Public Service CS called for a candid discussion on the
ongoing abductions accusing the state of having a hand in the vice.
He said the government cannot presume innocence on the
matter that he insisted risks plunging the country into anarchy.
Muturi said how the abductions are being
carried out in broad daylight confirms it has all the blessings of the state.
"I'm fully aware of the doctrine of collective
responsibility, but since I'm also a victim of the abductions and serving in
this government I have not gotten any answers, I have taken this unusual step
so that the matter can debated honesty and openly as country with a view to
finding a lasting solution."
