President William Ruto has said if the Azimio La Umoja brigade chooses to continue with protests, they might lack agents in the 2027 elections.
Speaking in Kabartonjo, Baringo County, when he issued title deeds, the head of state called on the opposition to completely do away with protests and join the government building the nation.
"Sisi hatuna shida na watu wa upinzani, wanafanya kazi yao ya kikatiba. Na wakiendelea na maandamano, na kuweka sufuria kwa kichwa, si hata agents watakosa kwa uchaguzi ujao?" he said.
This is loosely translated to: "My government doesn't have a problem with the opposition, they are exercising their mandate according to the constitution. And if they continue with the protest, going to the streets and putting sufurias on their head they might even lack enough agents for the 2027 elections".
Ruto said his administration is keen on exercising the law according to the constitution as the country cannot be sabotaged using violence and chaos
"We want a democracy, we will follow the law, we cannot sabotage our economy using violence as it is unpatriotic and against the rule of law," he said.
The Azimio La Umoja Leader Raila Odinga had on August 5, given Ruto a thirty-day ultimatum over dialogue, saying if the talks fail to bear fruit, his team will take on another course of action.
"Azimio La Umoja is ready to have talks with the Kenya Kwanza government. We are giving the Ruto-led administration 30 days ultimatum. After that, if our demands are not met, I will issue new instructions.
"Lakini wasipokuwa tayari kuongea na kukubaliana na sisi vile tunataka tunasema baada ya siku 30 Wakenya watachukua hatua tofauti."
