Embattled Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has rubbished claims that Azimio protesters have been destroying property during demonstrations.

The former Ndaragwa MP insisted that the countrywide demonstrations have been peaceful.

However, Kioni claimed, a section of politicians have been hiring goons to attack private business and loot properties and then blame it on Azimio.

"The Constitution guarantees the right to protest and instead of the protesters being protected to exercise their right, they have been killed," Kioni claimed.

Speaking during an interview with Radio Jambo on Tuesday morning, Kioni insisted that Kenyans will not be intimidated from doing that which is provided for in the Constitution.

"The killings and destruction of property that we have witnessed have not been done by protesters," Kioni claimed.

"Any time we have come out to protest under Raila's leadership, no destruction of property has been witnessed."

However, the government has accused the opposition of using goons to destroy property and also sabotage the economy during their protests.

The government also alleged that some Azimio politicians hired guns that were used to kill protesters so that the killings are blamed on the government.

The opposition held nearly 17 public meetings across the country before calling for protests that have rocked the country in the last two months.

On Monday evening, the opposition called off countrywide protests that had been planned for Wednesday this week.

The opposition leaders will instead lead Kenyans in a peaceful procession to light up candles and lay flowers at select places across the country.
