President William Ruto has said leaders who are opposing the Affordable Housing programs are the enemies of the people.

Speaking in Roysambu, Nairobi, during the launch of the Nairobi County School Feeding Programme, the head of state said that the leaders have good houses with good lighting and sewages, yet they don't want slum dwellers to experience the same.

"People who are opposing the housing programme are the enemies of the people. The houses are for the benefit of the people, for them to become homeowners. I made a promise to them," he said.

Ruto insisted that the housing programme will create more jobs for the youth who will be employed as masons, plumbers and carpenters at the construction sites.

"We will be creating more than one million jobs through the program. The houses will not only be constructed in Nairobi but across the country, everyone will be included; plumbers, carpenters," he said.

He urged the Members of Parliament to pass the Finance Bill 2023 so that his administration will fulfil its promises to the people of Kenya.

On the housing levy, the head of state said that his administration only needs 3 per cent of the income and Kenyans will remain with 97 per cent.

"Please, mnipee tu 3 per cent na nyinyi mtabaki na 97 per cent tusukume hii mambo," he said.

(Please, just give me the 3 per cent (of gross income), and you will remain with the 97 per cent so that we push the Affordable housing program).
