The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has issued a comprehensive public safety advisory detailing essential practices for domestic liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) consumption.

The guidelines aim to minimise the risks of home accidents, gas leaks, and potential fire outbreaks associated with the everyday use of gas cookers and cylinders.

Central to the safety directives is the rigorous maintenance of gas apparatus. Consumers are strongly advised to frequently inspect rubber tubings and hoses for any signs of physical damage, leaks, or loose connections.

Because faulty equipment poses an immediate hazard, the regulatory authority emphasises that a licensed gas supplier must be requested to replace LPG appliances immediately upon the detection of any defect.

In addition to technical maintenance, EPRA highlights the importance of vigilant behavioural practices in the kitchen. Homeowners must always turn off the gas cooker immediately after use and ensure that gas cookers are never left turned on without direct supervision. Unattended cooking remains a leading cause of preventable domestic fires.

The advisory also addresses the immediate environment surrounding cooking areas, warning users to keep all flammable materials far away from gas appliances.

By adhering to these structured protocols—combining routine hardware checks with careful operational habits—consumers can significantly enhance safety levels in their households.

EPRA continues to urge the public to prioritise these standard practices to ensure a secure environment when handling LPG products.
