White eye discharge: What you need to know/ROSA MUMANYI

White eye discharge is a common condition that occurs when mucus, tears and tiny debris collect around the eyes.

In most cases, small amounts of discharge, especially after waking up, are completely normal and help keep the eyes clean and protected.

The discharge may appear white, sticky or crusty and can sometimes cling to the eyelashes.

It often becomes more noticeable when the eyes are irritated by dust, smoke, allergies or prolonged screen time.

In some cases, infections such as conjunctivitis can also lead to thicker discharge and discomfort.

While mild discharge is usually harmless, persistent or excessive buildup may signal an underlying problem.

Symptoms such as redness, swelling, pain, itching or blurred vision should not be ignored.

Maintaining proper eye hygiene, avoiding rubbing the eyes and washing hands regularly can help prevent irritation and infections.

If symptoms persist, seeking medical advice is recommended to protect eye health and prevent complications.
