Last visit to a fuel station: What did you encounter/HILLARY BETT

A recent GeoPoll survey paints a worrying picture of the fuel situation in Kenya, with most motorists reporting higher prices, long queues and fuel shortages at stations across the country.

According to the survey released on May 12, 58 per cent of respondents said fuel prices were higher than usual during their last visit to a petrol station.

Another 43 per cent reported encountering long queues as motorists scrambled to secure fuel supplies.

The survey further revealed that 27 per cent of Kenyans found stations either closed or out of stock, while an equal percentage said fuel rationing was being implemented at some outlets.

Only five per cent of respondents reported experiencing no challenges, saying fuel was readily available.

The findings come amid growing public frustration over the rising cost of fuel and transport disruptions witnessed in several parts of the country.

The sharp increase in fuel prices has triggered nationwide protests and significantly affected transport, business operations and the overall cost of living for many households.
