
Kenya’s economic sectors displayed a stark contrast in petroleum consumption throughout 2024, with total expenditure heavily dominated by logistics and commerce.
According to recent financial data measured in billions of shillings, the transportation and storage sector led the nation by a wide margin, consuming Sh550.67 billion to keep goods and passengers moving.
Other commercial activities also registered high demand, accounting for Sh379.77 billion.
Industrial sectors showed moderate energy dependency, led by manufacturing at Sh129.59 billion. Undefined activities accounted for Sh40.26 billion, followed by construction at Sh31.34 billion and mining at Sh20.27 billion.
Remarkably, essential utility and food sectors remained at the lower end of the scale.
Electricity supply utilised 10.89 billion shillings, while agriculture required Sh4.75 billion.
Public administration and defense spent Sh4.663 billion, leaving accommodation and food services with the lowest share at Sh1.01 billion.
