Fuel prices across the East African region continue to vary significantly, reflecting differences in taxation, import costs, subsidies and currency performance among member states.
According to data from the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Kenya currently records some of the highest diesel prices in the region.
In Kenya, super petrol is retailing at Sh214.25 per litre, while diesel stands at Sh242.92.
Uganda’s fuel prices remain relatively lower, with petrol retailing at Sh179.74 and diesel at Sh174.37 per litre.
Tanzania’s super petrol costs Sh205 per litre, while diesel is selling at Sh211.40.
In Rwanda, motorists are paying Sh259.09 for petrol and Sh194.70 for diesel, making it one of the most expensive countries for petrol in the region.
Burundi and Ethiopia continue to post comparatively lower prices.
Analysts say global oil market trends, taxes and exchange rate fluctuations remain key factors influencing fuel costs across East Africa.
