Data from the Usawa Agenda report reveals significant pupil-to-toilet ratios. Nationally, 61 boys and 47 girls share a single toilet.
These figures far exceed MOE and WHO recommendations of 30 boys and 25 girls per toilet.
Refugee schools show the highest disparity, with 75 boys and 61 girls per unit.
In public schools, the ratio is 61 boys and 46 girls, while private schools maintain lower averages of 42 boys and 39 girls.
Urban areas report 67 boys per toilet compared to 56 in rural settings.
Such inadequacy compromises hygiene, health, dignity, and learning continuity for Kenyan learners.
