Motorists in Nairobi should brace for major traffic disruptions during the Africa Forward Summit scheduled for May 11–12.
The government has announced full and partial road closures around key routes leading to the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) and areas hosting heads of state and delegates.
Roads that will be fully closed from midnight on May 11 include City Hall Way, Parliament Road, Harambee Avenue and Taifa Road.
Security officials say the closures are necessary to facilitate the smooth movement of visiting dignitaries attending the high-level continental summit.
Several major highways and feeder roads will also experience intermittent disruptions, traffic stoppages and diversions.
These include Mombasa Road, Lang’ata Road, Thika Road, Limuru Road and Kiambu Road.
Additional affected areas include Nairobi’s Central Business District, especially around KICC, hotel zones hosting delegates and roads leading to summit venues.
Motorists have been advised to plan ahead, use alternative routes and expect heavy traffic during the two-day event.
