Kenya continues to record strong uptake of the Social Health Authority (SHA) programme, with major urban and densely populated counties leading male registrations.

According to the 2026 Economic Survey, Nairobi City tops the list with 790,221 registered men, reflecting the capital’s large population and wider access to registration centres and digital services.

Kiambu follows with 389,614 registrations, while Mombasa recorded 334,118. Western Kenya counties also showed strong participation, with Kakamega, Bungoma, Kisumu and Homa Bay all appearing in the top 10.

Machakos, Bomet and Kisii also posted significant numbers.

The figures capture the transition from the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to SHA since October 2024, signalling growing public awareness and adoption of the new healthcare system.

Analysts say higher male registration could help improve household healthcare coverage and reduce out-of-pocket medical expenses.

The government continues to push nationwide registration campaigns to ensure more Kenyans have access to affordable and universal healthcare services under SHA.
