
Ted Turner, the American media mogul who revolutionised cable television, died aged 87 on May 6, 2026.
He founded CNN, the world’s first 24-hour news network, reshaping how audiences consume breaking news.
Turner also built a major cable empire, including TBS and TNT, before selling Turner Broadcasting System to Time Warner for $7.3 billion.
He is widely credited with pioneering continuous global news coverage. Beyond media, Turner was a philanthropist and environmental advocate, serving as chair of the United Nations Foundation.
He was also known for his high-profile marriage to actress Jane Fonda. He died near Tallahassee, Florida, after battling Lewy body dementia, leaving a lasting legacy in global media and philanthropy worldwide influence and enduring impact.
