Kenyan banks continue to offer relatively low returns on customer deposits, with interest rates for the lowest-paying institutions ranging between 3.12 per cent and 6.46 per cent as of March 2026.

Data from the Central Bank of Kenya shows Standard Chartered Bank Kenya Limited offers the lowest rate at 3.12 per cent, followed by Citibank N.A Kenya at 4.92 per cent and NCBA Bank Kenya at 5.06 per cent.

Other major lenders, including Co-operative Bank, HFC and KCB, offer rates slightly above 6 per cent, while Stanbic, UBA, DIB and Diamond Trust Bank top this list with rates hovering around 6.4 per cent.

Despite variations, the figures highlight persistently low earnings for savers, especially when compared to inflation levels, effectively eroding the real value of deposits.

The trend underscores ongoing concerns about the attractiveness of traditional savings accounts and raises questions about whether banks are doing enough to reward customers for keeping money in their institutions.
