A new survey highlights where gender discrimination is most commonly experienced across select African countries.

According to the Gender Equality Report 2026 by GeoPoll, the workplace ranks as the leading setting, with 62% of respondents reporting discrimination.

Schools follow at 43%, pointing to persistent inequalities in learning environments. Government offices account for 38%, suggesting systemic challenges in public services. At home, 24% of respondents experience discrimination, while 23% report similar treatment in retail stores.

A smaller proportion, 5%, cited other locations. The survey, conducted in Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa and Egypt, underscores the widespread nature of gender bias and the need for targeted interventions.
