Cybercrime is rapidly becoming one of the most financially damaging challenges facing the global economy, with its annual cost projected to balloon into the trillions of dollars.
As recently as 2019, the estimated annual cost stood at $1.16 trillion.
In the following year, 2020, it nearly tripled to $2.95 trillion, a sign of accelerating digital dependency and vulnerability. The cost has continued its steep trajectory, reaching $5.49 trillion in 2021 and $7.08 trillion in 2022.
By 2025, the global cost is estimated to hit a staggering $10.29 trillion. The trend shows no sign of slowing, with projections indicating a jump to $12.43 trillion in 2027 and a massive $13.82 trillion by 2028.
These figures illustrate that the digital economy's security lapse carries a profound and escalating financial toll, demanding an immediate and coordinated international response to combat cyber threats.
