
The tragic killing of lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu on September 9, 2025, in Karen, Nairobi, shocked the legal fraternity and the nation at large.
According to police, Mbobu was trailed by two men on motorcycles who opened fire on his vehicle along Magadi Road before fleeing the scene.
His death marks the loss of a distinguished advocate, academic, and governance leader who served Kenya for nearly three decades.
Mbobu’s career was rich and impactful. He lectured at the University of Nairobi School of Law, the Kenya School of Law, and Multimedia University, shaping countless young legal minds.
He also authored the widely used legal textbook The Law and Practice of Evidence in Kenya.
Beyond academia, Mbobu was the former Chairman of the Political Parties Disputes Resolution Tribunal and served on the board of the Institute of Directors Kenya.
He was also a corporate leader, chairing Quest Holdings and Core Capital Group. Despite his towering public achievements, Mbobu kept his personal life private.
