Dr Richard Lesiyampe has been reappointed to lead Kenya’s largest referral hospital, Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).
He attended Kabarnet High School before pursuing political science at the University of Nairobi. His career in public administration began as a District Officer in Kabartonjo, Baringo, later rising through ranks in various government parastatals.
Lesiyampe made history as the first non-medical professional to head KNH.
He also served as Principal Secretary in the ministries of Agriculture and Environment, and later sought political office in Samburu, though unsuccessfully.
He was most recently the Chief Executive Officer of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching & Referral Hospital (JOOTRH), where he is credited with elevating the institution to a Level 6 facility.
