
From July 15 to August 14, 2025, East African countries varied markedly in their petrol, diesel, and kerosene levies.
Kenya led the region with the highest taxes: Sh82.33 per litre on super petrol, Sh69.67 on diesel, and Sh55.14 on kerosene.
Uganda followed, charging Sh52.30 for petrol and Sh40.76 for diesel, while Rwanda imposed lower levies of Sh30.69 on petrol and Sh36.79 on diesel.
Tanzania’s rates stood at Sh50.64 per litre for petrol and Sh44.59 for diesel.
The disparities reflect each country's unique fiscal policies and infrastructure funding needs.
