A total of 42 people lost their lives, and about 1,500 individuals have been arrested nationwide in connection with the violence and destruction during the June 25 and July 7 demonstrations, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said.

Murkomen described the two days of unrest as “pure, premeditated criminality: deliberate, dangerous, and deeply disturbing,” emphasising that the events did not amount to peaceful protest but a planned attempt to undermine public order and the Constitution.

Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, the CS said the level of violence witnessed was unprecedented, adding that nearly 600 people were injured, including 496 law enforcement officers.
