
The study revealed that nearly half of the respondents perceived their communities to be unsafe.
When asked if they felt safe in their localities, 57.0% of respondents said they felt safe, while 43.0% said they did not feel safe in the localities.
In terms of gendered disaggregation of perceptions of safety, 60.0% of the male respondents indicated feeling safe in the community, whereas 55.0% of female respondents felt safe.
On the flip side 40.0% of males felt unsafe, while more female gender (45.0%) felt unsafe in the localities.
When respondents who said they felt unsafe were prompted for reasons as to why they felt unsafe, they gave the following reasons: 94.0% pointed out that crime was rampant in their localities.
62.0% said police are not responsive to distress calls or when crimes are reported; 49.0% averred that rogue police officers demand bribes.
49.0% indicated illicit brews and drug abuse was
on the rise in the localities; 39.0% said limited/restricted movement of people at night was a factor.
