This comes after it also emerged that Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has embarked on a three-day tour of Namibia.
Details of Kalonzo's trip were also unclear. The Azimio presidential candidate is expected to stay abroad for three days.
There were reports that Raila flew to the US while other sources in his circle intimated that he is in one of the African countries.
The mission is unclear although his confidants claim he is on a private tour to take rest after gruelling campaigns.
But some independent sources said Raila would as well visit a Middle East country for private interests.
"Baba will be out for some three days for private issues but will jet back on Sunday," a senior member of Raila's campaign team who refused to go on record said.
Both Kalonzo and Raila are said to have jetted out of the country almost at the same time in the wee hours of Wednesday but boarded different planes.
The Star could not however ascertain if the two Azimio bigwigs were headed to same destination or would catch up during their trips.
Last month, Kalonzo was in the UK for a one-week tour for political reflection after which he returned and announced his reunion with Raila.
“ I don’t know the whereabouts of Raila but my party leader is in Namibia,” Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo, a close confidant of Kalonzo, told the Star on phone.
Another official said Raila was accompanied by a lean team of mainly close family members, but refused to give names.
Odinga’s departure from the country comes shortly after he unveiled the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance manifesto in a colourful ceremony at Nyayo National Stadium, Nairobi.
This is also the first time Raila is leaving the country since he unveiled Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua as his running mate in the August 9 presidential election.
Raila first spoke about his trip on Tuesday during the burial of Kajiado Central MP Elijah Memusi’s wife Stella Memusi who perished in a road accident.
“I thanked Memusi for agreeing to revise the burial date from Thursday because I had told him that I will be out of the country on that day. Actually, I will be leaving the country on Wednesday morning for a foreign trip,” Raila said on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, ODM chairman John Mbadi told the Star that he was not aware of Raila’s trip.
“I have no idea, maybe he is going for few days I don’t know,” Mbadi said when asked about the details of Odinga’s trip abroad.
Over the last two months, Raila visited US, neighbouring South Sudan and Uganda.
In May Odinga met with Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at State House in Entebbe in what was seen as a personal diplomacy to mend ties.
On Wednesday, President Uhuru Kenyatta who backs Raila's presidential candidature, met Museveni's son at State House.
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Uganda's Special Envoy, paid Uhuru courtesy call.
During the meeting, the two discussed several bilateral and multilateral issues of interest to Kenya and Uganda.
In April, the Azimio boss cut short his one-week diplomatic offensive to US to attend the burial of President Mwai Kibaki.
Raila will be flying back to a tight campaign schedule beginning Monday next that will see him tour five counties next week.
The former premier, who was scheduled for a week-long tour of Nyanza, has revised his campaign schedule and will now be combing Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s lower Eastern region.
“The Nyanza region tour has been postponed. It will now be end of the month,” Mbadi, who co-chairs the Nyanza Azimio presidential campaign team, said.
Mbadi said Raila will lead Azimio team to Kisii on Monday where he will address several rallies as he drums up support for his fifth presidential bid.
From Kisii, Raila will link up with Wiper leader Kalonzo in extensive rallies in the three Ukambani counties of Machakos, Kitui and Makueni.
This will be the first time Raila and Kalonzo will have joint rallies in Ukambani since the former vice president withdrew his candidature and backed Raila in a contest pitting the ODM leader against Deputy President William Ruto.
Raila will also tour Isiolo, Marsabit and Marsabit counties next week before heading to consolidate his Nyanza backyard towards the end of the month.
