President William Ruto on Monday showcased a lighter side of leadership when he put his driving skills to the test behind the wheel of the newly acquired Migori Youth FC team bus at State House, Nairobi.
The gesture marked the official handover of the vehicle he purchased to support the team's transport needs.
The President sat behind the wheel of the brand-new 51-seater bus as players, club officials and invited guests looked on, bringing to life a promise he had earlier made to provide the club with reliable transport.
The brief drive became the highlight of the ceremony, with players cheering as the Head of State steered the bus around the State House grounds.
The bus, branded in Migori Youth FC's colours and bearing the club's identity, is expected to become the team's official means of transport for league matches, training camps and other club engagements.
Until now, the club had largely depended on hired vehicles for away fixtures, a challenge that often increased operational costs and complicated travel arrangements.
Speaking during the reception, President Ruto congratulated the club on its remarkable achievement and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the growth of sports in the country.
"I will provide Sh10 million to help you move forward with your operations," President Ruto said, while also pledging to help the club attract additional support ahead of the new season.
Club officials welcomed the arrival of the bus, describing it as one of the most valuable assets the team has acquired since its formation.
They noted that owning a dedicated team bus will reduce transport expenses, improve planning for away matches and provide players with a more comfortable and dependable mode of travel throughout the season.
The handover also reflects the increasing emphasis on improving sports infrastructure and logistical support for Kenyan clubs as they seek to compete at the highest level. For Migori Youth FC, the new bus represents more than just transportation—it is a symbol of progress, stability and ambition.
The 51-seater bus is expected to accompany Migori Youth FC across the country, carrying the team to its fixtures while standing as a lasting reminder of the President's support and his fulfilment of a promise made to the club.
President Ruto is not new to taking the wheel of the bus. On November 29, 2025, the Head of State also put his driving skills to the test behind the wheel of a school bus during a development tour in Garissa County.
The President was at Yusuf Haji Girls' Secondary School in Masalani, Ijara constituency, where he laid the foundation stone for Phase II of the institution’s expansion.
The visit also saw him hand over a brand-new school bus, highlighting the two key initiatives as part of the gains of the enhanced Sh702 billion allocation for the education sector in the 2025-26 fiscal year.
“This investment has helped improve school infrastructure, enabled the hiring of 100,000 teachers and expanded funding for our colleges and universities,” President Ruto said.
