The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested three more suspects linked to the violent invasion of All Saints Cathedral, where a meeting was violently disrupted.

DCI said detectives from Kilimani, working with officers from the Nairobi Regional Office arrested three suspects following intelligence-led investigations and forensic analysis.

According to investigators, the suspects were tracked down and apprehended at different locations within Nairobi.

During the operation, detectives recovered a red Boxer motorcycle which is believed to have been used during the commission of the offence.

Mobile phones recovered from the suspects were also seized and secured for forensic examination as part of ongoing investigations.

The DCI said preliminary investigations indicate that the attack involved more individuals than those already in custody.

“Investigations have since revealed that the attack was not the work of the three suspects alone. Detectives are actively pursuing more leads to establish the full extent of the criminal enterprise and identify and arrest all persons involved,” the agency said.

The three suspects join two others who had earlier been arrested in connection with the incident and are currently undergoing processing pending their arraignment in court.

The DCI reiterated its commitment to ensuring all those responsible are brought to justice, describing places of worship as sanctuaries that must be protected from violence and disruption.

“Places of worship are sanctuaries of peace and reflection, and any individual who seeks to violate their sanctity, threaten public safety or disrupt lawful gatherings will face the full force of the law,” the statement said.

The agency has appealed to Kenyans with information that could assist investigators to report to the nearest police station or anonymously through the #FichuaKwaDCI platform.

According to police, security footage showed the first group of attackers arriving on motorbikes at about 9.39am while a post-budget meeting was underway.

Police officers responded within minutes and managed to push the group out of the church compound, allowing the meeting to continue as participants discussed budget proposals presented by Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi the previous day.

However, the attackers allegedly regrouped outside the compound before returning at around 10.11am.

Responding to the incident, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen termed the attack unfortunate and said detectives are analysing CCTV footage to identify all those involved.

Murkomen confirmed that one suspect had already been arrested and that police were pursuing other individuals captured in the footage.

"We will take those people to court and they will be held to account. Our next phase of security operation is to exterminate this threat of gangs and I want to promise the nation that with the Nairobi Metropolitan Police, we are going to succeed," he said.

The CS said similar operations targeting gang activity in towns such as Nakuru and Kitale had yielded positive results.
