Probe after missing man found dead in Kitui

Detectives in Nzambani Sub-County, Kitui County, are investigating the death of a 31-year-old man who had been reported missing before his body was discovered in a remote area on Thursday.

The deceased, identified as Musyoka Mulwa, was reported missing on June 9, police said. A missing person report was filed at Thua Police Post on June 10.

According to police, the incident was reported at about 8 a.m. after the deceased's father found his son's body lying lifeless.

Police suspect Musyoka may have fallen from a tree while harvesting honey from a beehive, resulting in fatal injuries. Investigators said the circumstances at the scene were consistent with an accidental fall, although inquiries are ongoing.

Crime scene personnel processed and documented the area before the body was moved to Kitui Funeral Home, where it is being preserved pending a post-mortem examination.

Police said investigations will continue to establish the exact cause of death.

Meanwhile, police in Lower Yatta Sub-County, Kitui County, have launched investigations into the killing of a 40-year-old man whose body was discovered at B2 Ranch on Thursday morning.

The incident was reported to Kanyonyoo Police Station. Police officers who responded to the scene found the body of Josphat Maingi Matiti.

Preliminary investigations indicated signs of a struggle at the scene. Police said the victim had sustained fatal injuries and that his head had been severed. His motorcycle was found off the road near the scene.

Investigators suspect the killing could be linked to an ongoing land dispute, although the exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.

The body was moved to Kitui County Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation and a post-mortem examination.

Police said efforts to trace those responsible are ongoing as detectives continue to gather evidence and establish the motive behind the killing.
