Classic 105 and Radio Jambo dominate Nairobi breakfast radio audience

Classic 105 and Radio Jambo have emerged as the dominant players in Nairobi's breakfast radio market, according to the group's GeoPoll Q1 2026 Kenya Radio Audience Survey.

The survey shows Classic 105 commanding a 27.43 per cent share of the Nairobi breakfast audience, the highest among all radio stations in the capital during the morning slot.

“Classic 105 recorded a 27.43 per cent Nairobi breakfast share, followed by Radio Jambo at 16.53 per cent,” the report stated.

Radio Jambo ranked second overall and retained its position as Nairobi's leading Swahili-language breakfast station with a 16.53 per cent audience share.

The figures place the two Radio Africa Group stations well ahead of their competitors in one of the most contested segments of the radio market.

Among English-language stations, Kiss FM recorded a 4.3 per cent breakfast share, followed by Hope FM at 4.2 per cent, NRG Radio at 3.8 per cent, Capital FM at 3.2 per cent and Nation FM at 2.9 per cent.

Homeboyz Radio posted a 2.5 per cent share during the same period.

The data indicates that Classic 105's breakfast audience alone is larger than the combined breakfast shares of several competing English-language stations.

Nationally, Classic 105 recorded a 14.39 per cent breakfast share, maintaining its position as the leading breakfast radio station in the country.

Radio Jambo followed with a 10.38 per cent national breakfast share, outperforming other stations in the Swahili-language category.

“Classic 105 remains the national breakfast leader with a 14.39 per cent share, while Radio Jambo recorded a 10.38 per cent national breakfast share,” the report stated.

The breakfast slot, which runs from 6 am to 10 am on weekdays, remains one of the most important periods for radio broadcasters because of its ability to attract large commuter and workplace audiences.

Classic 105 is a Radio Africa Group station featuring an adult contemporary music and talk format, while Radio Jambo focuses on Swahili-language programming that includes news, sports and talk shows.

The survey results reinforce the two stations' strong appeal among Nairobi listeners and their continued dominance of the capital's morning radio audience.
