Cannabis allegedly recovered during a police raid in Mtopanga/HANDOUT

Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) in Mombasa have dismantled a drug trafficking ring following an operation that led to the arrest of three suspects and the seizure of cannabis sativa valued at Sh6 million.

The operation was carried out in the Mtopanga area, Mombasa county, after detectives received information about suspected drug trafficking activities in the area.

Acting on the tip-off, officers raided a two-bedroom house believed to be a key distribution point for narcotics.

During the operation, detectives recovered three sacks containing cannabis sativa weighing a total of 200 kilogrammes.

Authorities estimated the street value of the seized drugs at approximately Sh6 million.

Officers also impounded a Honda motorcycle, which is suspected to have been used in the transportation and distribution of narcotics within the region.

Three suspects were arrested during the raid and taken into custody, and are currently undergoing processing pending their arraignment in court.

Authorities stated that the seized cannabis has been detained as exhibits, as investigations continue.

Detectives are also expected to pursue further inquiries to establish the full extent of the trafficking network and determine whether additional suspects may be linked to the operation.

The seizure marks another significant step in ongoing efforts by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to combat narcotics trafficking through intelligence-led operations across the country.

Authorities have continued to intensify crackdowns on drug dealers and distributors in an effort to curb the spread of illegal substances and protect communities from the effects of drug abuse and trafficking.

Members of the public have been encouraged to support the fight against narcotics by reporting drug-related activities through the DCI's anonymous reporting channels.

Reports can be made through the toll-free number 0800 722 203 or via WhatsApp on 0709 570 000.

The three suspects remain in police custody as legal proceedings against them begin.
