Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has expressed joy and gratitude after her son, Ian, and his partner, Joanne, held a traditional Ruracio and Ngurario ceremony in a family celebration.
Waiguru noted that witnessing the union’s progression through the traditional marriage rites was a source of pride and blessing for the family.
She reflected on the significance of the ceremonies, which are key steps in many Kenyan communities’ traditional marriage processes, emphasising love, commitment and family unity.

As a mother, witnessing this important milestone in your journey together was a truly cherished blessing,” she said.
Waiguru said she was encouraged by the bond between the couple, expressing hope that their relationship would continue to grow in strength and purpose.
She congratulated the couple and offered prayers for their future together, urging them to build their union on strong values.

Waiguru wished the couple happiness and togetherness as they begin their married life journey.
The private ceremony brought together close family members to celebrate the culturally significant rites of Ruracio, which involves the formal negotiation and acceptance of a bride price, and Ngurario, a traditional Kikuyu marriage ceremony that seals the union.
