Former Raila Odinga aide Silas Jakakimba has announced his intention to vie for the Suba North parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.

In a statement addressed to residents of Suba North Constituency, Jakakimba said he was returning to active political engagement after taking a four-month break that he described as part of an extended mourning period for his former boss, Raila Odinga.

Jakakimba said he and his team were preparing to return to grassroots mobilisation efforts across villages in Suba North to continue development engagements started in February 2024.

“My 4-month break declared in early November 2025 in honour of my extended mourning window for my former boss of over 18 years, Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga has now come to a close. We are determined and planning to come back to the ground to the villages to continue what we began in February 2024,” he stated.

The lawyer and political strategist also unveiled the “Day at Nyaka Loki Movement,” which he said would champion a new development agenda for the constituency.

He expressed confidence in winning the seat, saying he would leverage both local and international networks to transform the constituency if elected.

“We will be on the ballot, and I will pull all stops, locally and globally, through the networks we have built over the years to ensure once the mandate is granted in August 2027, we jointly take Suba North to the next level,” Jakakimba said.

If successful, Jakakimba will unseat current Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo, who has represented the constituency for multiple terms.

In March 2024, Jakakimba officially joined the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, several months after he ditched the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.

Jakakimba said he resigned from ODM to support President William Ruto and his administration.

"Today, I am here to announce my formal entry into the United Democratic Alliance Party of Kenya," he said.

He said that his move affirms the party's growing popularity in Nyanza and across the country.

"I intend to join the many Nyanza people who are now increasingly ready to mobilise, popularise and even contest for elections on the UDA platform," Jakakimba said.

"Joining UDA confirms my belief that the party is a national party with a national constituency and an even brighter future in the path of grounding and consolidating democratic gains in our years-old quest for good governance in the Joint Republic."
