The Kenya Revenue Authority has announced a temporary shutdown of the iTax system to allow for scheduled maintenance aimed at improving system performance and service delivery.
In a public notice issued to taxpayers and stakeholders, KRA said the maintenance exercise will begin on Friday, May 22, 2026.
It is set to commence at 10pm and run until Saturday, May 23, 2026 at 2am, lasting a total of four hours.
During the maintenance window, all iTax services will be unavailable, affecting taxpayers, businesses, tax agents and other users who rely on the online platform for filing returns, making payments and accessing tax-related services.
“Kenya Revenue Authority informs all stakeholders that there will be a scheduled maintenance of iTax,” the authority said in the notice.
KRA stated that the planned maintenance is part of routine system management intended to ensure stability, efficiency and improved user experience on the digital tax platform.
The authority advised users to plan their transactions in advance to avoid inconvenience during the downtime period.
“During this period, iTax will be unavailable. Any inconvenience caused is highly regretted,” KRA said.
The iTax platform is Kenya’s primary online tax administration system and is widely used for filing tax returns, applying for compliance certificates, processing PIN-related services and making tax payments.
The temporary shutdown is expected to affect all iTax users nationwide, including individual taxpayers, companies, government institutions and clearing agents who depend on the system for daily tax operations.
KRA has in recent years continued upgrading its digital systems as part of broader efforts to improve revenue collection, enhance efficiency and reduce service interruptions.
The authority has also been pushing for greater digitisation of tax administration services to simplify compliance and improve access for taxpayers across the country.
Users experiencing urgent tax-related needs have been encouraged to complete their transactions before the scheduled maintenance period begins Friday night.
KRA further assured stakeholders that services would resume immediately after completion of the maintenance exercise early Saturday morning.
