Murkomen vows justice after petrol attack gospel musician dies

The government has vowed to bring to justice those behind the attack that led to the death of gospel musician Rachel Wandetto, who succumbed to injuries on Monday morning at Kenyatta National Hospital.

Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen described the killing as a senseless act fueled by political intolerance and hate.

“We shall bring the perpetrators of this senseless act to book. Rachel will get justice,” he said.

Wandetto is said to have been attacked by what the officials described as “a vile and intolerant group of people” before being admitted to hospital, where she later died.

Her death was termed “deeply disturbing,” with Murkomen warning against the growing culture of political violence and division in the country.

“No one deserves to be injured or killed for their political views or affiliation in this day and age. It should prick the conscience of those propagating politics of hate, violence and division,” he said.

The officials disclosed that they had visited Wandetto at Kenyatta National Hospital on Sunday evening, where she appeared resilient despite her condition.

“When I visited Rachel in the hospital last evening, her face showed resilience and courage. It is quite unfortunate that she lost the fight,” the CS said on X.

Murkomen also conveyed condolences to Wandetto’s family and friends, assuring them of support during the mourning period.

“I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to her family and friends for this painful loss. The government stands with you in this time of immense grief,” he said.
