President William Ruto on Friday joined students, staff and alumni during the 70th anniversary celebrations of Thika High School.

He said he was pleased to attend the event and reflect on the institution’s legacy. "Honoured to join Thika High as it marks the school's 70th anniversary."

Ruto praised the school for its role in shaping leaders and contributing to national development.

"That legacy is a testament to the school’s commitment to moulding not just brilliant minds, but men of character and purpose." He noted that alumni continue to serve across key sectors.

He said graduates are driving progress in government, business, academia and other fields. "Its alumni are at the forefront of national development, driving progress across government, business, academia, and beyond."

He added that the school has remained a centre of excellence for seven decades. "For seven decades, Thika High has stood as a beacon of excellence, producing outstanding results in academics and sports, and shaping leaders who serve our nation today in various spheres."

Ruto announced expansion plans including 35 new classrooms, a 1,000-bed dormitory and a multipurpose hall for 2,000 students.
