The United Democratic Alliance has officially handed Samuel Muchina Nyagah the party ticket for the upcoming Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election following what party leaders described as a free, fair and credible nomination exercise.

UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar announced that Muchina had been issued the certificate of nomination after emerging victorious in the party primaries ahead of the July 14, 2026, by-election.

“Following the decisive victory of Samuel Muchina Nyagah in the UDA party primaries, we have officially issued him with the Certificate of Nomination, affirming his position as the party’s candidate for the Ol Kalou Constituency by-election,” Hassan said during an event at party headquarters on Thursday, May 14.

The party said it had now shifted focus to the grassroots campaign as it seeks to retain the constituency seat through an aggressive mobilisation strategy anchored on President William Ruto’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

“We have completed our internal democratic process, and our focus now shifts to the grassroots as we prepare to deploy our political architecture and a well-coordinated campaign to win the vote and confidence of the Ol Kalou electorate,” Hassan said.

The campaign, he said, will be built on an unwavering commitment to the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, inclusive development and tangible progress that leaves no Ol Kalou resident behind.

The UDA secretary general praised the party’s National Elections Board (NEB) for overseeing what he termed a transparent and peaceful nomination exercise.

He noted that only one dispute had been filed following the primaries and that it was successfully resolved by the Electoral and Nomination Dispute Resolution Committee, chaired by Dr Adrian Kamotho.

“Hassan Omar expressed confidence in the candidate and lauded the National Elections Board for conducting free, fair and credible nominations,” the party said in a statement.

UDA National Elections Board chairperson Anthony Mwaura was among senior party officials present during the issuance of the nomination certificate.

Also present were former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, Nyandarua Woman Representative Faith Gitau, party directors and Members of County Assembly from Nyandarua.

Gitau used the occasion to thank President Ruto for ongoing development projects in Nyandarua County, saying the region had continued to benefit from government programmes under the Kenya Kwanza administration.

In a show of party unity, several aspirants who had contested in the nominations pledged support for Muchina’s candidature.

Those who endorsed him included Mary Nyokabi, Peter Njoroge Mugo, Peter Chuchu Njuguna, Maina Kiambati, Joseph Ndirangu, Ezekiah Kamweru, Daniel Ndungu and Stanley Mwangi.

The Ol Kalou by-election is expected to attract significant political attention as parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
