Radio Africa Group staff marked Mother’s Day with a lively yet deeply reflective celebration that blended appreciation, personal stories and moments of light humour in honour of mothers and mother figures within the organisation.

The event, which included snacks, speeches and a cake-cutting ceremony, created a warm atmosphere of recognition and togetherness.

Group HR manager Jemima Ngode set the tone of the celebration by acknowledging the emotional weight that Mother’s Day carries for different people.

“So anyway… let me start,” she said at the beginning of her address, before shifting into a more reflective tone.

“When it comes to Mother’s Day, people think differently. There are those who have lost their loved ones, there are those who are aspiring, longing mothers.”

Jemima said despite these different experiences, the message of the day was one of hope and acceptance.

“All you want to say is that God is in control, and He knows the reasons as to why. We’re just asking to be at the centre of all our longings,” she said, extending comfort to grieving mothers and those still waiting to become mothers.

“We thank God for everything, and we also believe that God is in control.”

The celebration then moved into its more interactive segment, where staff were invited to share in cake cutting and informal engagement.

Ngode briefly shifted from English to Mandarin, revealing a personal attempt at learning the language through ongoing classes. “Da jiao… Wen jiao, Jemima,” she said playfully, before introducing herself in Mandarin phrases. “My name is Jemima. I am a Kenyan, born and raised in Nairobi. I come from Nairobi.” She added humorously, acknowledging the challenge of the exercise and inviting interpretation assistance.
