Former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki were on Tuesday spotted sharing light moments during the inauguration ceremony of Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni in Kampala.
Photos from the event captured the two leaders laughing and engaging in what appeared to be a friendly conversation as dignitaries gathered for Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony, attended by regional leaders and senior government officials.
Kindiki represented President William Ruto at the ceremony, while Uhuru attended in his capacity as a former Head of State and regional statesman.
The inauguration followed Museveni’s re-election during Uganda’s January 2026 General Election, extending his decades-long leadership of the neighbouring country.
Uhuru had arrived in Kampala on Monday ahead of the ceremony.
His office said he joined “fellow leaders, government officials, and dignitaries” for the event celebrating Museveni’s new term in office.
Kindiki, on the other hand, travelled to Uganda on behalf of President Ruto as Kenya continued to strengthen diplomatic and regional ties with Kampala.
The ceremony brought together leaders from across the East African region and beyond, underlining Uganda’s close diplomatic ties with neighbouring countries.
Museveni has remained one of Africa’s longest-serving leaders.
