KURA Director General Silas Kinoti HANDOUTThe Kenya Urban Roads Authority has announced that a section of Eldoret Road in Nairobi will be closed from May 18, 2026, at 6 am until September 18, 2026, at 6 pm.
The closure is necessary to allow construction of a vehicular bridge across the Nairobi River, a project designed to ease congestion and improve connectivity between neighbourhoods.
Motorists are advised to follow alternative routes outlined in the official sketch and to cooperate with traffic police and marshals who will be stationed to guide movement.
Residents and business owners along Eldoret Road have expressed mixed feelings on the statement posted on Twitter.
Some welcome the project as a long-awaited improvement, while others worry about the disruption to daily routines.

One commuter remarked on Twitter, “It’s inconvenient now, but if it means smoother traffic later, we’ll manage.”
The authority has emphasised that safety measures, including a temporary pedestrian bridge, will be in place to ensure accessibility for all.
KURA Director General Silas Kinoti assured the public that the project is part of a broader mission to transform Urban Mobility.
He explained that the bridge will not only reduce traffic jams but also provide a safer crossing over the river, benefiting both motorists and pedestrians.
The notice includes clear markings of the roadblock, working area, and diversions, aiming to minimise confusion during the construction period.
This initiative reflects Nairobi’s growing commitment to modernising its transport infrastructure in response to rapid urbanisation and rising vehicle numbers.
Strategic projects like the bridge are expected to set a precedent for future urban planning, ensuring the city remains accessible and efficient.
KURA has apologised for the inconvenience that might be caused, reaffirming its dedication to improving Nairobi’s road network.
