Former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza rallies support for ex-Woman Rep WanguI Ngirici/FBFormer Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has openly endorsed former Kirinyaga Woman Representative Wangui Ngirici for the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
Mwangaza made the endorsement during a political rally in Kirinyaga County, where she appeared alongside Ngirici in a joint mobilisation event that attracted supporters from across the area.
The two leaders were seen addressing residents together, signalling what they described as a shared political vision ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Speaking during the rally, Mwangaza urged Ngirici not to struggle seeking political backing from established parties, saying she already had an alternative political platform ready for her.
She told supporters that she was offering Ngirici a direct party ticket under her own political outfit.
“We come from Meru to tell Ngirici not to struggle looking for a party. We have a party called the Umoja na Maendeleo Party, and I am the party leader. Other parties may deceive you, but we cannot. I want to stand with her. She has stood with the ground. Her seat is direct,” Mwangaza said.
She further recalled their past political journey, noting that they had worked together during earlier parliamentary engagements and had both aspired for higher office at different points in their careers.
In remarks delivered partly in local dialect, Mwangaza said their shared political experiences strengthened her confidence in Ngirici’s leadership potential and her ability to mount a serious gubernatorial bid.
“I was with Wangui during the 12th Parliament. I was number one, she became number two. We told each other to go and seek the governor's seat. I went to Meru and was elected,” she said.
However, Mwangaza also claimed that political betrayal had affected her own leadership journey, saying she was later targeted.
She said that she would push back against what she termed betrayal in the region’s politics.
“2027, tunasema wasaliti wote tunafagia,” Ngirici told supporters, signalling a tough political stance ahead of the elections.
Mwangaza also used the platform to rally residents of Kirinyaga to participate actively in the 2027 general elections, encouraging high voter turnout.
She later took to social media, posting a message of support that read, “Wangui Ngirici for Governor 2027,” while thanking residents of Ngariama for their reception during the event.
Ngirici previously contested the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat in 2022 as an independent candidate after parting ways with the ruling party (UDA).
She, however, lost the race to incumbent Governor Anne Waiguru in a closely contested election.
