The Democrats for the Citizen Party (DCP) leader, Rigathi Gachagua, has unveiled businessman and land dealer John Mwaura as the party’s candidate for the Kiambu gubernatorial seat in 2027.

The announcement was made at the party headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi, on Monday during a ceremony attended by party leaders and supporters.

Speaking during the event, Gachagua reaffirmed his political interest in the region, describing Kiambu as strategically important to the party’s political ambitions.

He called on the electorate to reject leaders aligned with President William Ruto’s UDA party, accusing some of betraying the interests of residents.

Gachagua further announced the launch of a political mobilisation campaign dubbed “Operation Fagia Kiambu”, aimed at unseating leaders he accused of betraying the electorate.

“Kiambu is home, and we should punish all leaders who have betrayed the community and those working with William Ruto. I will personally lead the ‘Fagia’ operations in the region,” Gachagua said.

He urged aspirants to intensify grassroots mobilisation, adding that he would personally support them in campaigns.

“I will support you and attend your meetings when invited. In Thika, I am coming soon,” he said.

He further claimed that Kiambu has the highest number of “political betrayers” in the Mount Kenya region and called on voters to reject them in the next election.

DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala revealed that at least 71 parliamentary aspirants from Kiambu have already registered under the party, urging more leaders to join ahead of the 2027 polls.

“Gachagua has opened doors for all aspirants, and we are ready to receive everyone,” Malala said.

Mwaura, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Finsco Africa, a land-selling company, thanked the party leadership. He declared his readiness to face other aspirants, describing his bid as a “redefining moment” for the people of Kiambu.

“I am ready to offer leadership that ensures Kiambu residents get a fair share of national resources,” he said.

He pledged to revive the county’s healthcare sector, work closely with Members of County Assembly (MCAs), and create employment opportunities for the youth.

“I will work with all leaders from the MCA level to ensure inclusivity in development,” Mwaura added.

Mwaura is expected to face off with incumbent Governor Kimani Wamatangi, Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a, among other contenders.
