Deputy President Kithure Kindiki /DCPSDeputy President Kithure Kindiki has donated Sh600,000 to Chonyi Comprehensive School in Rabai, Kilifi county to support infrastructure a welfare.
Kindiki said Sh300,000 would go towards the purchase of desks and seats for teachers, citing the need to improve the learning environment and boost academic performance.
He said adequate furniture remains critical in ensuring comfort and effectiveness in teaching and learning.
"I am adding sh. 300,000 for the students, teachers and parents , not for the seats but for their upkeep," the DP said.
The additional funds will cater for lunch for students, teachers and parents who attended the event.
During the visit, Kindiki interacted with students, teachers and parents, outlining the government’s focus on strengthening education at the grassroots.
He said improving school conditions remains central to raising education standards, particularly in underserved areas.
Parents who spoke at the event said the support comes at a time when many families are struggling to meet basic needs amid rising economic pressures.
Teachers also pointed to ongoing challenges, including limited resources and inadequate facilities, which continue to affect the quality of learning.
Local leaders present called for sustained investment in school infrastructure and student welfare programmes.
They said schools in the region still face shortages that require long-term interventions beyond one-off support.
Kindiki, however, maintained that collaboration between leaders, educators and parents is key to improving outcomes in the sector.
He said education remains a critical tool in driving social and economic transformation.
The visit drew members of the local community, who gathered at the school to follow the proceedings and hear the DP's remarks on development and education.
The donations are expected to ease immediate needs at the school, particularly in addressing furniture shortages and providing meals during school events.
However, stakeholders said broader and sustained efforts will be necessary to fully address the challenges facing institutions.
Kindiki’s visit to Chonyi Comprehensive School adds to ongoing efforts to improve learning conditions at the community level, even as calls grow for more structured and long-term investment in the education sector.
