KPA CEO Capt Ruto’s daughter dies in crash

Authority confirms he and his family are in stable condition in hospital

The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has confirmed that its Chief Executive Officer, Capt. William Ruto was involved in a tragic road accident on the evening of April 3, 2026, while travelling with his family.

In a statement issued by the Authority on April 4, the KPA revealed that, regrettably, Capt. Ruto’s daughter lost her life in the accident.

"We are deeply saddened to announce that our Chief Executive Officer, Capt. William K. Ruto was involved in a tragic road accident yesterday evening while travelling with his family," the statement said.

"Regrettably, his daughter did not survive the accident."

The statement expressed the organisation’s profound sorrow, extending thoughts and condolences to Capt. Ruto and his family during this period of immense grief.

Capt. Ruto and the remaining members of his family are reported to be in stable condition and under close medical supervision.

The KPA emphasised that authorities are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the accident.

“We remain hopeful for their full and swift recovery,” the statement added.

The Authority also requested that the public and media respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time.

KPA acknowledged and expressed gratitude to Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir and Taita Taveta Governor Andrew Mwadime for their rapid assistance and support in the aftermath of the accident.

Furthermore, the Authority thanked its staff, partners, stakeholders, and the general public for their continued patience, support, and cooperation during this period.

The KPA reassured that it is cooperating fully with the relevant authorities to provide all necessary information as investigations continue.
