Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna convened the People's National Delegates Conference in Ufungamano House, Nairobi, on Friday.
The conference was a parallel event to the ODM special National Delegates Conference, led by the ODM party leader Oburu Oginga.
Sifuna was accompanied by other leaders, including Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Siaya Governor James Orengo and ODM deputy party leader and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi.
The event was met by heavy police presence, with the officers trying to get the event planners to postpone the meeting.
"They can hold their meeting any other day other than today. We are talking to the leaders to move it,” assistant Inspector General Issa Mohammud said.
"I want to tell the police that any assault on any one of us will be met with consequences. We will pursue you and hold you accountable, and we will also go after those who sent you," Orengo said during the event.
"I want to tell the police that any action of assault on any one of us will follow you. We are a peaceful people. This meeting is properly convened," Sifuna said after the meeting was allegedly disrupted by police officers.
