Tragedy struck a family when their two minors were killed in a fire incident in Karia village, Mukurwe-ini, Nyeri county. 

Police said a third child escaped unhurt after the fire broke out, burning down a house.

The girls were aged eight years and four.

They had been left sleeping in the house when the fire broke out on December 12 morning, police and the family said.

The fire brigade personnel from Nyeri County Government assisted in putting out the said fire, but the house was completely reduced to ashes.

The remains were moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy, police said.

Meanwhile, police in Isebania, Migori county are investigating a drowning incident after the body of a four-year-old girl was found floating in River Hibwa.

The incident happened in Nyabiri village. The body was half-naked and was in the water when it was discovered, police said as they moved the body to the mortuary pending other procedures.

Police are investigating whether the girl drowned or was killed and dumped in the river to stage a drowning.

And police in Kamukuywa, Bungoma county are investigating the killing of a man by a mob.

The suspect was accused of breaking and stealing from a bar in the area.

He was beaten to death. Police discourage mob lynching and want suspects be surrendered to authorities for processing. The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other procedures.

In Kinangop, Nyandarua county, a suspect was stoned to death and his body set on fire on claims he was a cattle thief.

The body of the suspect was recovered at the scene in Thinde area and moved to the mortuary pending other procedures, police said.

Up to three cases of mob lynching are reported on a daily basis in a worrying trend, police say. The police said most of the cases are pending under probe.

And detectives are investigating the murder of a 45-year-old man outside his house in Nangili, Likuyani, Kakamega county.

The deceased was identified as Hassan Mauliti.

The body had physical injuries in the head and body, including his hands. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

In Kerinkani area, Transmara, Narok county, a man was shot and killed in an attack related to the cattle rustling menace in the area.

A second man was shot and injured before being rushed to hospital in stable condition.

He had a gunshot wound in the hip. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Tension remained high in the area amid police deployments to address the same.
