A one-year-old boy was killed in a fire incident in Etago area, Kisii county.

His brother, aged four, was rescued in the Friday, December 5 incident, police and witnesses said.

The boy sustained slight injuries and was rushed to a local hospital for attention.

Police said the parents of the children had locked them in the house and left for a local market for errands.

The fire broke out, burning down the house and the child.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known, police said as they moved the remains to the mortuary for autopsy amid investigations.

Elsewhere in Keroka, Nyamira county, police are investigating an incident where a man was fatally assaulted and his body dumped near his house.

Police said Josek Nyakwara, 41, was assaulted by unknown people who later dumped him along the Eronge-Mochenwa road. He was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to the injuries.

An autopsy on the body confirmed he died due to haematoma due to blunt force to the head.

The hunt for the said assailants in the murder which occurred on December 4 is ongoing, police said on Sunday, December 7.

In Adungosi area, Busia county, a suspect was lynched by a mob in a failed robbery incident. This was after the suspect was accused on Friday of stealing a motorcycle in the area.

Police said they found his body at the scene long after the incident had happened. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures. Police discourage mob lynching and want suspects to be surrendered to authorities for processing and other procedures.

In Maseno, Kisumu county, police said they are investigating an incident where a man identified as Moses Nyaure, 33, was stoned to death over claims he had stolen a motorcycle.

His body was also sprayed with acid in the Saturday drama. Police said they are pursuing suspects in the murder.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy. Police discourage mob lynching and term it a crime.

Cases of mob lynching have been on the rise in both urban and rural areas at an alarming rate. Police say up to three cases are reported daily in the trend amid a campaign to stop the same.

Some of the suspects are framed up and killed over land and other interests, police investigations have shown amid an ongoing hunt for the suspects behind the same.
