The Public Service Commission (PSC) bids farewell to outgoing chairperson Anthony Muchiri at the Kenya School of Government in Lower Kabete/HANDOUT

The Public Service Commission (PSC) has paid tribute to its outgoing Chairperson, Amb. Anthony Muchiri, during a farewell luncheon held on December 8, 2025, at the Kenya School of Government in Kabete.

The event marked the end of Muchiri’s four-year tenure at the helm of the Commission, following his recent appointment as Kenya’s ambassador to Turkey.

Speaking at the ceremony, PSC Vice Chairperson Mary Kimonye described Muchiri’s departure as both a great loss to the Commission and a big win for the nation, noting that his new diplomatic assignment was a testament to Kenya’s confidence in his leadership.

“Today is a day of mixed emotions. We feel pride in your accomplishments and joy in your new journey, but also sadness in parting with a leader who has left an indelible mark on us. Above all, we feel deep, sincere gratitude,” she said.

Kimonye highlighted Muchiri’s continental contribution, citing his election as President of the Association of African Public Service Commissions (AAPSCOMS).

She praised him as a calm, humble and unifying leader whose influence extended beyond Kenya to the wider African public service landscape.

In his remarks, Amb. Muchiri urged the Commission to stay committed to its constitutional mandate and maintain focus in delivering services to Kenyans.

He reflected on reforms implemented during his tenure and expressed confidence in the Commission’s stability and leadership.

“PSC is a consequential institution that has direct impact on every civil servant and citizen by extension. We must remain focused, resolute, and determined to serve our country,” he said.

PSC Secretary and CEO Paul Famba commended Muchiri for steering critical reforms aimed at modernising the public service.

He noted Muchiri’s emphasis on patriotism, professionalism and strengthening staff welfare, as well as his drive to make the Commission more dynamic and digitally responsive.

Famba added that the Secretariat felt empowered under Muchiri’s leadership and remained committed to sustaining the transformation agenda he championed.

The ceremony ended with a standing ovation in recognition of Amb. Muchiri’s exemplary service to the nation.

Muchiri has served as PSC Chairperson since December 2021. His appointment to represent Kenya in Turkey marks a new chapter in a public career that has spanned leadership at national and continental levels.

Also present at the event were the Auditor-General and Chairperson of Constitutional Commissions and Independent Offices (CCIOs), Nancy Gathungu, PSC Commissioners Harun Hassan, Mwanamaka Mabruki, Boya Molu, Irene Asienga, Francis Owino, Francis Meja and Joan Machayo, Deputy Secretaries and the entire Secretariat.
