A lawmaker eyeing a top county seat is seething with rage
after elders blocked his attempt to test his political strength ahead of the
2027 race. He had hoped to supposedly use the just-concluded by-election as a trial
run, but was dealt a blow when community elders rejected his push to field a candidate. The legislator wanted the by-election to gauge his influence, but the elders ruled that the seat should remain with the family whose kin held it before the vacancy occurred.

A governor from an expansive region appears unfazed by
growing criticism over his extravagance. The county chief allegedly continues
to operate from a luxury hotel in the capital, spending thousands of shillings
daily at the taxpayers’ expense. He even holds official meetings, including cabinet
sessions, at the hotel. This is despite reports that he owns a home in one of
Nairobi’s high-end estates. What remains unclear is why he opts to spend public
funds on hotel living instead of operating from his county headquarters, where
residents say essential services are suffering as a result.

Did a top leader stage a security incident in his home for
political reasons? Well, some county insiders were at the weekend overheard
saying how poor the script was, as the narration and the execution of the whole
incident had glaring gaps that even made the leader’s security look
incompetent. They were heard saying that the boss was possibly seeking sympathy
or diverting attention of his constituents from a critical issue that is under
scrutiny.

Questions about who really is in-charge of a critical docket
are emerging as the head’s absence in key meetings and trips becomes too
frequent to ignore. For instance, the top official was expected to make an
address at an international meeting but failed to even travel. The man was also
missing at another high-level meeting in which his docket was also heavily
involved and the presence of other colleagues whose issues were on the agenda.
Interestingly, it is another high-ranking official who previously served in the
docket who attended the meeting.
