A team tasked with overseeing the deal signed by President William Ruto and late ODM leader Raila Odinga has completed a three-day workshop to review its progress

The Committee on Implementation of the 10-point agenda and the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report, (COIN-10), say it is assuring Kenyans that it will finalize public engagement to address the issues raised within the scheduled time.

ODM and UDA were represented in the session by their executive directors, Oduor Ongwen and Nicodemus Bore, respectively.

The team was mandated to address a number of issues that Kenyans were raising on governance, rule of law, electoral integrity, strengthening of devolution, and fostering unity and cohesion among the people.

The team is also seeking the establishment and entrenchment of state offices that include the Office of the Leader of the Official Opposition and the Office of the Prime Minister.

The COIN-10 pledged to work with Dr. Oburu Oginga, who has since assumed the role of ODM Leader and co-principal, to ensure the Accord is fully implemented.

The Committee, in a communique issued by its chairperson, Dr. Agnes Zani, after a three-day stocktaking meeting at Maanzoni Resort in Machakos County, said it will continue engaging Kenyans to get their views on the implementation process and resolution of its mandate.

The retreat was sponsored by the Centre for Multiparty Democracy (CMD-K). Dr. Zani said they met to take stock of the progress of its mandate since its inception in August this year, update the public on progress made on its mandate, and, jointly with the technical team, to enhance the framework for tracking the implementation of the 10-point agenda.

“This is in consideration of the fact that the Committee’s mandate has a predetermined time frame that lapses in a couple of months before handing its final report to the principals for further consideration and approval,” she said.

So far, Dr. Zani added that the committee has held a series of engagements as per the terms of reference and the scope of mandate.

The committee says it continues to actively oversee the implementation of the 10-point agenda by meeting stakeholders in all socio-economic and political spheres, with the aim of making the nation better for all.

“For the past three days, the Committee has been privileged to benefit from critical insights from experts of democracy, good governance, strategic communications, and other cross-cutting thematic areas relevant in building the capacity of the COIN-10 Committee as we continue to engage stakeholders in carrying out our mandate.”

In February 2024, the National Assembly adopted the report of the NADCO, which was tabled in the House on December 7, 2023, by Leader of the Majority Party and NADCO Co-Chairperson Kimani Ichung’wah (Kikuyu).

UDA and ODM hope that the implementation of the recommendations will create room for a more formal engagement ahead of the 2027 polls.
