A man has been arrested in Narok after police officers seized 70 litres of chang’aa and an assortment of narcotics during an operation prompted by a public tip-off.

Officers based at Lolgorian police station said they acted on credible information that led them to Ololtingual Village, where the suspect was intercepted and taken into custody.

According to authorities, the suspect was found ferrying the illicit brew alongside the narcotics, which were confiscated and booked as evidence.

Police said the man is being held at the station as investigators process the case ahead of his arraignment.

The operation forms part of an ongoing campaign in the region targeting distributors and manufacturers of illegal alcohol.

The NPS said it remains firm in its stance against illicit substances, noting that such crackdowns are critical to reducing harm within communities.

"The National Police Service reiterates its unwavering commitment to combating the menace of illicit alcohol and narcotics," NPS said in a brief.

Authorities encouraged residents to work closely with security teams by sharing information that can help track illegal brews, especially in remote villages where production and distribution often occur discreetly.

Police noted that public alerts continue to play a significant role in identifying supply points and movement routes.

The arrest came less than 24 hours after similar enforcement efforts resulted in the arrest of a suspect in Vihiga subcounty on Monday during what police described as a successful evening operation in Mbihi village, Wamuluma Location.

During the patrol, officers from Mbale police station intercepted illicit liquor that was being transported for distribution.

The consignment was seized and secured as an exhibit, and the suspect was taken into custody pending arraignment.

In a statement, the NPS emphasised its commitment to safeguarding the public from harmful substances that pose risks to health and community well-being.

The cases underscore the ongoing nationwide efforts to curb illegal alcohol networks, which police say remain active despite repeated enforcement operations.

Meanwhile, officers from Yala police station recovered three suspected stolen cows during a routine mobile patrol along the Butere-Ulumbi road on Monday.

Four occupants of the vehicle abandoned the Toyota Caldina and fled on foot

"Upon a further search, a kitchen knife and a mobile phone were recovered. The vehicle was impounded at the station to await further processing, while the other exhibits were secured," police said.

A team of officers is following crucial leads to trace and apprehend the culprits.

The NPS renewed its appeal to citizens to use its emergency hotlines or anonymous reporting channels when they encounter any suspicious activities linked to illicit liquor or drugs.

Members of the public are urged to support the ongoing fight against illegal brews by reporting through the toll-free hotlines 999, 911 or 112.

Police added that anonymous reports can also be made through #FichuaKwaDCI on 0800 722 203 or via WhatsApp on 0709 570 000.
