Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has endorsed United
Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Leonard Wamuthende (Leo) as the most
suitable choice to lead Mbeere North, urging residents to back him in
Thursday’s by-election.
Kindiki said Leo had shown clear understanding of the
constituency’s development priorities, including roads, water supply,
electricity, education, and other key concerns affecting local communities.
He noted that the candidate had engaged extensively with
residents and demonstrated capacity to address their needs.
Speaking on Saturday during campaign stops in Ngiiri and
Kyenire, the Deputy President called on voters not to be swayed by what he
termed attempts to derail ongoing government projects in the area.
He warned residents against “being duped into abandoning the
government that is implementing multi-billion-shilling projects” across Mbeere
North.
“We are supporting Wamuthende because we will work with him
to complete projects being implemented by the government in this area,” Kindiki
said.
He added that the ruling party had rallied behind Leo due to
what he described as the candidate’s strong credentials and commitment to the
constituency’s development agenda.
Kindiki pointed out that Leo had pledged to sustain the
bursary programme for all students from Mbeere North, a scheme he said was
beneficial to hundreds of learners.
“It is only Leo who has affirmed his support for bursaries
for all students. His competitors want to scrap the programme, yet it helps
many children from this constituency,” he said.
The Deputy President listed ongoing government
interventions, including road tarmacking, expansion of water projects,
electricity connections, and construction of modern markets.
He assured residents that the Kenya Kwanza administration
would prioritise their needs and would not marginalise the area “as previous
regimes did.”
Kindiki criticised leaders backing the opposition candidate,
accusing them of failing to initiate any significant development projects in
Mbeere North during their tenure in senior positions.
He said those now campaigning against the government had no
record to show and were instead resorting to insults and misinformation.
“When we needed them most, we did not see them here in
Mbeere. Now they are all over, insulting us and talking down leaders to the
people. Do not be distracted by them,” he said.
“This is our government, and we will continue pushing for
development from within.”
He urged residents to turn out in large numbers and vote for
Mr. Leo, saying the government would appreciate and reciprocate the support.
“We will be grateful, and we will not forget your support. We will complete ongoing projects and start many more here,” he added.
