A 34-year-old man was stabbed and killed in Kasarani, Nairobi, following an altercation at a residential property, police said.
The suspect fled the scene shortly after the attack, authorities added.
According to police, the deceased, identified as Paul Maina, had visited a woman’s home to fix speakers that were not working.
The woman was known to him.
As Maina was leaving the house on the evening of Wednesday, November 19, the woman’s partner reportedly arrived.
An argument ensued, during which the woman’s partner allegedly attacked her.
Maina returned to intervene and attempted to separate the couple.
Police said the woman’s partner then allegedly used a knife to stab Maina in the chest and stomach.
He was rushed to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Authorities said efforts to trace the suspect are ongoing.
The deceased’s body has been moved to a mortuary pending autopsy and other procedures.
The woman involved told police that she did not have a romantic relationship with Maina, countering claims made by her partner.
She was later questioned as part of the investigation.
Police revisited the scene as part of the ongoing probe.
Officials emphasised that investigations into the case were continuing as of Thursday.
Such incidents have been on the rise, police said, with several cases reportedly linked to disputes over personal relationships, property, or finances.
The homicide unit handles murder cases nationwide, with an estimated eight cases reported daily. Some of these remain unsolved.
In a separate case in Samuru, Gatanga, Muranga County, police are investigating the discovery of human skeletal remains found in a sack in a thicket.
The remains were collected and taken to a local mortuary for autopsy and identification.
Authorities said it is unclear when the victim died, and investigations are ongoing.
