The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has officially opened
applications for 26 judicial positions, providing an opportunity for qualified professionals to serve in various tribunals and committees nationwide.
The notice, signed by the Secretary of the JSC, outlines openings for
both chairpersons and members across a range of specialised tribunals,
signalling the commission’s commitment to strengthening the judicial and
quasi-judicial sector.
Among the advertised posts is the Chairperson of the
Petition Committee, a critical role responsible for overseeing petitions filed
against judicial officers.
Other chairperson roles include positions on the Political
Parties Disputes Tribunal, the Industrial Property Tribunal, the Competition
Tribunal, the Standards Tribunal, the Energy and Petroleum Tribunal, and the Public
Benefit Organisation Disputes Tribunal.
These senior appointments play a
pivotal role in ensuring fair adjudication in areas that directly affect
governance, industry, and public welfare.
In addition to the chairperson positions, the commission is
also seeking qualified members for several tribunals.
"These include a member of
the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal who must be an advocate, two advocates
and two non-advocate members for the Industrial Property Tribunal, a member for
the Competition Tribunal, and members for the MSME Tribunal, including both
advocates and non-advocates," the notice reads.
Additional openings include three positions on the
Energy and Petroleum Tribunal, two on the Retirement Benefits Appeals Tribunal,
and four positions on the Public Health Organisations Disputes Tribunal, split
between advocates and non-advocates.
The commission has emphasised that the recruitment process
will be open, transparent, and competitive, aimed at attracting a diverse pool
of candidates with the requisite expertise and professional experience.
“Only
shortlisted candidates will be contacted,” the notice states, underlining that
the selection will follow a merit-based process.
Applicants are directed to the JSC jobs portal at https://jsc.go.ke/jobs-2,
where detailed job descriptions, eligibility requirements, and instructions on
how to apply are provided.
Interested candidates are advised to submit their
applications no later than 5 pm on December 5, 2025.
The notice also reassures
applicants that the JSC recruitment services are free of charge.
The announcement comes at a time when the judicial sector is
increasingly emphasising specialisation and efficiency.
The appointments are expected to
contribute to faster, more effective resolution of disputes, thereby promoting
public confidence in the judicial system.
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) is a constitutional
body tasked with ensuring the independence, efficiency, and integrity of the
judiciary in Kenya.
Its mandate includes recruiting, appointing, and
disciplining judicial officers, as well as advising the President on judicial
appointments.
The JSC also promotes judicial accountability, safeguards the
welfare of judges and magistrates, and ensures fair and transparent selection
processes for tribunals and other quasi-judicial positions.
By overseeing judicial
appointments and standards, the JSC plays a critical role in upholding the rule
of law, access to justice, and public confidence in Kenya’s legal system.
